New to geothermal?

Proven for 50+ years. Better every year.

Geothermal is new to some homeowners, but it has heated and cooled homes for more than 50 years. Like every system, it gets more efficient and more advanced each year.

A system is an indoor unit plus a buried earth loop. However hot or cold it gets outside, five feet down in New York the ground holds a steady 54 to 55°F. Geothermal turns that constant temperature into free thermal energy.

Both seasons

One system heats and cools

Fluid circulates through the buried loop. The heat pump moves heat in or out of your home.

WINTER

Heating

Fluid in the earth loop absorbs heat stored in the ground and carries it indoors. The heat pump concentrates it and sends warm, comfortable air through your home.

SUMMER

Cooling

The system reverses. It pulls heat out of your home, carries it through the loop and deposits it in the cooler earth, delivering dehumidified air conditioning.

Benefits

What geothermal does for you

Using the earth to heat and cool pays off well beyond your energy bill.

Lower energy bills

Moves 3 to 5 times the energy it uses.

No on-site emissions

Nothing burns in your home to make heat.

Constant hot water

Heats domestic hot water by 50 to 100% depending on the system.

Healthy, safe air

No combustion and no flue in your home.

Quiet

No outdoor unit, no outdoor noise, no weather wear.

Safe for the earth

Loop antifreeze and refrigerants do not harm the environment or ozone.

Even comfort

Warm air at 90 to 105°F, no cold blast, fewer hot and cold spots.

Net zero with solar

Pair with solar for a net zero carbon footprint.

The smallest home to the largest building.

Geothermal heats and cools, heats hot water, warms floors and even melts ice on driveways.

Cost and savings

It pays you back

The biggest incentive is the energy savings. In new construction the amount added to your loan is less than the energy you save, so payback starts on day one. Replacing a conventional system typically pays back in a few years.

Example: save $700 a year against a $2,000 cost difference and payback is under 3 years. A conventional system lasts about 12 to 15 years. Geothermal lasts about 22 to 25 years.

Rebates: county property tax credits and electric utility rebates may add to your savings, depending on where you live. Ask us what applies.

  • Payback starts on day one in new construction
  • Works in existing homes and new builds
  • Your specialist can run a side-by-side cost report
